Michael Humphries woodworking is now located at 158 Birnam Road in Northfield, Massachusetts. Our new offices are located upstairs from the shop in the building shown here.
In the early 1900′s this building was known as “The Carriage House” – a service facility for the Northfield Hotel and the “Chateau” (a mansion that belonged to the hotel). It included a bunkhouse for drivers and housed the carriages that were used to pick up hotel guests at the railroad station. As automobiles became more popular the carriages were replaced with horseless ones and the the building also served as a garage for the guests cars.
In the 1960′s and 70′s the “Carriage House” was a function hall that hosted proms and dances for the Pioneer Valley Regional High School, wedding receptions, and other private parties.
Michael Humphries Woodworking acquired the building in 2001.
